On the 29th of December 2012, my brother (William) got married to his longtime girlfriend Rachel. I was lucky enough to be Rachel's maid-of-honor and after months of planning the day seemed to arrive so quickly. Their beautiful wedding was at Werribee Open Range Safari Zoo and family and friends from across the country came down to be there on their special day.
Their ceremony was in the afternoon and it was in a beautiful garden opposite the gorilla enclosure. You could see the gorilla sitting on top of the hill with the sun behind him, he looked so amazing but also like he could attack you at any time. The gorilla scared the fuck out of my brother when they were taking photos up against the glass of its enclosure, it run up to them and banged against the glass. I wish I was there to see that, it would've have been so funny to hear my so-called tough brother scream.
After the ceremony, the guest went on a safari tour around the zoo, whilst the new bride and groom went on a tour to feed the giraffes. The reception was held in a function room next to the meerkat enclosure. It was obvious that the children would love all the animals they were encountering but even the oldies looked so happy and amazed to see all these creatures.
There never goes a day when I don't embarrass myself and on this day I did it in front of 160 people. There's always that one person who gets overly emotional during a wedding speech. That was me.. FUCK! I became really overwhelmed and started crying, really bad (lol)!
Other than my unfortunate emotional outburst, the day was so wonderful. I'm not being biased here because it was my brother's wedding, but it was the best wedding ever! It was so different from a tradition wedding and was just plain fun. I had a great time and was so happy to see my brother and my new sister-in-law have the greatest time of their life. I wish you guys the best for the future and love you so much!
