Our last city before we joined our TopDeck tour in Rome was Catania, Sicily in Italy.
My travel partner/best friend has Sicilian heritage, which motivated us to travel to Catania as it was close to the village his grandparents were from. Catania is not a very touristy place and being a little unorganised the two things we wanted to do; travel to the village and the Mt. Etna were booked out. We also got horribly lost one night and it was not fun.
Whilst our stay involved some bummers, reflecting back on it I do appreciate that we visited Catania. It was an authentic italian city with beautiful views of Mt Edna, great weather and we did enjoy some nice food. There may have also been an incredibly hot waiter at a cafe that we could not converse with, but he was incredibly nice (and good looking! I thought I should mention that again). Also, looking back on it now it was probably beneficial that our stay in Catania was more slow-paced because after that our crazy and amazing TopDeck tour started.
I am excited to revisit Sicily in the European summer and travel to it's amazing islands.
